Robert G. Laney, III, M.D.
Dr Laney is from Cleveland County. He completed his undergraduate degree at Gardner Webb University. He completed a Master’s Degree at Appalachian State University. He graduated from medical school at University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Shands Teaching Hospital at University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. Dr Laney is board certified by the American College of Surgery. He has served in many leadership capacities at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.         

   

 

 

 

H. Douglas Hobson, MD

Dr Hobson completed his undergraduate degree at Ohio Northern University. He obtained his MD at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has been affiliated with Shelby Surgical Associates since 1993. He is currently president of Shelby Surgical Associates. He has served as chairman of the Department of Surgery. He has served as Chief, Vice-Chief and secretary of the medical staff at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He is currently on staff at the Wound Healing Center at Carolinas Healthcare-Cleveland and is a Certified Wound Specialist. He is also certified in robotic surgery.  He is board certified in General Surgery and Endovascular Medicine. His special interests include endovascular surgery, laparoscopic surgery, peripheral vascular disease, and wound care.

 

 


 

 

 

Andrew J Taylor, M.D., FACS
Dr Taylor completed his undergraduate degree at UNC Chapel Hill. He completed medical school at UNC School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Dr Taylor has been associated with Shelby Surgical Associates since completing his residency. He is the Medical Director of the Wound Healing Center at Carolinas Healthcare-Cleveland. He served as Department Chair of Surgery from 2009 until 2011 and Chief of Staff in 2013 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.  Dr Taylor is certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and he also is certified in Endovascular Medicine. He is a member of American College of Surgeons. He is certified in robotic surgery.   His special interests include endovascular surgery, peripheral vascular disease, wound care as well as broad based general surgery--including but not limited to hernia repair, benign and malignant breast disease, gastrointestinal and thyroid surgery.

 

 


 

 

 

J. Andrew Smith, M.D.
Dr Smith completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee in Bio Chemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology. He completed medical school at the University Of Tennessee College Of Medicine, Memphis Tennessee. He completed his residency at New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington. 

He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.  His special interests include trauma, laparoscopic and robotic surgery as well as board based general surgery.

 

 


 

 

 

David J. Rice, M.D.
Dr Rice completed his undergraduate degree in Biological Basis of Behavior at the University of Pennsylvania. After completing his undergraduate degree, David spent 3 years in research at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated medical school from Howard University in Washington, DC. He completed his residency at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC.  He specializes in general and laparoscopic surgery.

Michael L. Barringer, M.D.
Dr Barringer completed his undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed medical school from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery at Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Winston Salem, NC. He is currently serves as the Trauma Director at Carolinas Healthcare-Cleveland. He also works at the Wound Healing Center at Carolinas Healthcare-Cleveland. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His special interests include trauma, Safe Kids and Safe Teens.  He now serves in administration at Carolinas Healthcare-Cleveland.

   

   

Kellie R. Vanhoy, PA-C

Kellie Vanhoy PA-C completed her undergraduate degree at Gardner-Webb University. She obtained her Master of Physician Assistant studies at Wingate University. She has been affiliated with Shelby Surgical Associates since 2012. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She is an affiliate member of the American College of Surgeons, member of the American Association of Surgical Physician Assistants, American Academy of Physician Assistants, North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants, and Christian Medical and Dental Association. Her interests include assisting with general surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and robotic surgery as well as performing wound care and multiple in office surgical procedures.
